Slave to fashion

On my way to work this morning, I saw a woman outside wearing a skirt with a hemline above the knee.

It was 41° F at the time.

There’s nothing unusual about that, unless she wasn’t wearing panty hose. I wear skirts just above the knee to work all the time in the winter. Now in the summer I’ll wear a long skirt to hide the fact that I’m not wearing panty hose.

    Cathy: I hadn’t realized that wasn’t unusual — I guess it’s the sort of thing I don’t normally notice.

I recall that she wasn’t wearing panty hose. No overcoat, either. And she wasn’t shivering. I was impressed.

Here in the North you often see people going out on the weekends in sub-freezing weather with short skirts, short (or no) sleeves, and only a medium leather jacket. A lot of it is the kind of weather you’re used to.
My brother, who lives in Boston, never wears a coat. He’s a big guy, and even below-zero-with-wind-chill doesn’t seem to faze him.
