For about five years now, I have been intermittently weaning myself from caffeine. I started again last week.

When non-caffeinated, I feel much more awake and alert for the first two hours of the day, but then more sleepy and dim for the rest of it. The non-caffeinated me can’t just sit in the cubicle and grind out work — I have to go outside and breathe fresh air every half-hour or so.

I’m also drinking much less soda for the time being, and finding that as I get used to drinking water, I don’t miss the sweetness (though I do miss the kick).
